Yoga Classes
Which class should you choose?
More than likely a combination of classes will be most appropriate. Terms such as Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced are used sparingly as they inadvertently encourage competition. Instead, classes are offered at different tempos so that anyone at any level of experience can jump into and experience the class that is most suitable.
Please do not hesitate to ask which class would be most appropriate for your needs and level if still unsure after reading the descriptions for each class.
Yoga Basics
A gentle paced class that develops strength and flexibility, participants may even find that it improves endurance as well. Suited for all levels of Yoga experience. Beginners will find this class non-intimidating as the pace is at a slow even tempo with time for much explanation of postures and individual readjustments during instruction. Seasoned Yoga participants will find the time to connect breath with movement, come deeply into a posture to fully understand it, and can utilize props such as bolsters, straps or blocks. Also recommended for individuals who have physical injuries and need to move through Yoga with careful intent. Instruction is given on use of props to make every posture comfortable and achievable for each individual.
Vinyasa Yoga
A class for mixed levels as well as mixed Yoga approaches. Individuals who enjoy this class like the medium pace through the standing series, and the shorter styled explanations of the postures and appreciate the time for long deep stretches. The class will give all participants a solid workout for strength, flexibility, and endurance, but also give much opportunity for internal reflection and meditation. It’s a perfect “mix” of yoga instruction for the participant who likes a little of this and a little of that to achieve an overall balance.
Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of Yoga that was taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. The purpose of vinyasa is for internal cleansing. Breathing and moving together while performing asanas makes the blood hot, or as Pattabhi Jois says, boils the blood. Thick blood is dirty and causes disease in the body. The heat created from yoga cleans the blood and makes it thin, so that it may circulate freely. The combination of the asanas with movement and breath make the blood circulate freely around all the joints, taking away body pains. When there is a lack of circulation, pain occurs. The heated blood also moves through all the internal organs removing impurities and disease, which are brought out of the body by the sweat that occurs during the practice.
Monkey Flow Yoga
An extremely creative and energetic class lead by Instructor Olivier David. In this strong and intense class, the students focus and endurance will be tested through a non-stop, continuous flow of postures, moving seamlessly into each breath and pose. Infused with a non-stop sense of fun and openness, prepare to enjoy every minute of this sweat inducing flow that will energize the body and calm the mind! Recommended for levels 2 and up.
Laughing Yoga
Laughing Yoga is a simple yet powerful and potentially life changing form of exercise that anybody can do – anytime and anywhere.
Laughing Yoga is a unique exercise routine, which combines unconditional laughter with healthy breathing. The laughter is initially simulated as a physical exercise while maintaining eye contact with others in the group and promoting childlike playfulness. This typically leads to real and contagious laughter. It is scientifically proven that the body cannot distinguish between simulated and real laughter.
Laughing Yoga session start with gentle warm-up techniques which include stretching, clapping and body movement. Breathing exercises prepare the lungs for laughter followed by laughter exercises that combine the method of acting and visualization techniques with playfulness. The exercises combined with the social dynamics of group behavior lead to long and hearty unconditional laughter. Laughing exercises are interspersed with breathing exercises.
The session is finished with “laughter meditation”. The participants sit or lie down and allow natural laughter to flow from within like a fountain. This powerful experience often leads to a healthy emotional release and a feeling of joyfulness. A peaceful meditation closes the class.
Pilates/Yoga
Pilates/Yoga fundamentals include relaxation-in-action, wave-like spinal movements and economy of motion. With the systematic approach, students can remain with Basics or progress to subsequent levels. Within each level, students increase their knowledge of posture and flow, as well as strength, flexibility, endurance and breath control. Through sustained awareness on all aspects of the practice, the movement of body, breath and mudra harmonize and the inner flow naturally emerges.
